Which Me Will Survive

Solo Exhibition September 2018

Jubilee Arts Center

This body of work is inspired by a line from “Who said it was simple” a poem by Audre Lorde. In the piece, Lorde explores her many identities and how they relate to each other. She ends the poem with

“Which me will survive, All these liberations?”

Juxtaposing portraits of myself, other black women and collage, my work investigates this question and creates new questions. Which parts of our identity will survive as we grow and evolve into the people we are destined to become? Which “me” will emerge from suffering and healing? How does media consumption, history, and familial memory intersect to inform our identity?
